we’re interested in hearing singers from musical

theatre or the classical genres

anyone can apply providing they are aged between 16-26

on the closing date of the application and they meet the

following criteria:

Cornish Applicants

must live full-time in Cornwall and attend a Cornish school

or full-time Cornish education institution.

However we are keen to hear from Cornish candidates who

may be already studying at a specialist college or university

outside of Cornwall

Gloucestershire Applicants

applicants must be or have been active members of MJ-UK Music and Arts

and have appeared regularly with the company

We will also consider students who are already studying at a college/ university and working with Maria Jagusz

What Happens Then?

The award will be decided through an audition process in front of a panel of experts from the world of Opera or Musical Theatre

What Will The Candidate Have To Do In The Audition

Classical singers* please prepare 2 songs . Either two contrasting arias OR one aria and one musical theatre/ folk song

Musical Theatre singers* please prepare 2 songs. Either two contrasting musical theatre songs OR one musical theatre song and one folk song or Gilbert & Sullivan song

*Please note that it is important to choose repertoire that is fitting for your age and standard of singing. There is also a time limit of 9 minutes for all songs.The panel may not ask to hear all the songs

Successful candidates are required to be available to appear in concert/ concerts in Cornwall during August

The completed application form must include the name and contact details of
a referee who has given their permission to be contacted. They should be a recognised music professional able to support the application

Auditions will be held before any grant is made.

The Award will be made as soon as possible following completion of auditions.

The decision of the Awards Panel will be final.

All candidates will be able to get feedback from the panel if requested.
