£1000 to two young singers and runner up prizes of £150


Winners of the award are invited to perform in concerts in Cornwall during the week 16th August 2021

The Awards will be presented at the final Concert during that week and winners will need to be present for this special event

(Accommodation will be provided during this week)


Who Can Apply?

We’re interested in hearing singers passionate about music and the performing arts either from the classical, musical theatre or singer / song writer genre


Anyone can apply providing they are aged between 16-26

on the closing date of the application and they meet the

following criteria:


Cornish Applicants

We are keen to hear from young Cornish singers who aspire to pursue a career in music or the performing arts.

We will accept applications from anyone

Born or living in Cornwall

Attending a Cornish School

In full-time education at a Cornish Institution

Already studying at a specialist college or university outside of Cornwall


Gloucestershire / London Applicants

Applications will be accepted from

Past and present students of Maria Jagusz

Singers of MJ-UK Music and Arts who have appeared regularly with the company

Students who are already studying at a college / university and have worked with Maria

Young artists who have appeared in operas, concerts or workshops directed by Maria

What Happens next?

If your application is successful you will be invited to sing  in a Competition Concert  either in Cornwall or Gloucestershire.

A panel of experts from the world of Opera and Musical Theatre will be adjudicating the competition but we will be opening up the concert for the general public to come and watch


What will you have to sing?

It is up to individuals to choose two contrasting songs

Choose repertoire which show off what you do best

(e.g. if you are a classical singer maybe choose an operatic aria, a song in a foreign language and a lighter song to show a different side of your personality. Musical theatre singer should choose repertoire from different eras of MT e.g. Legit, contemporary, golden age. For singer / song writers we are happy to hear own compositions and accompaniment on guitar.)


Please note an accompanist is provided if you require one.

Cornish Competition: 18th July 2021

(All applications to be received by 30th May 2021)


Venue: St Endellion Church

All applicants to be available from 2.00pm

Applicants will be given a time slot to meet the panel and chat about how they would use the award.

Concert: 7.00.p.m

(applicants will be given a rehearsal time on the afternoon of the concert )



Gloucestershire / London Competition: Saturday 3rd July


Venue: The Chapel Arts Centre

Knapp Road

Cheltenham GL5 3QQ

All applicants to be available from 2.00pm

5.pm-6.pm

Applicants will be given a time slot to meet the panel and chat about how they would use the award.

Concert : 7.00.p.m

(applicants will be given the opportunity to rehearse during the day)

The Chris Treglown Foundation Fund Award 2021
